George Rakis

George Rakis is a nationally recognized political strategist with over 20 years of management experience. As National Director of the Climate Action Campaign, a coalition of environmental and public health organizations, he led efforts that secured historic climate policies under the Obama Administration and defended them against legislative and Trump-era rollbacks.

Rakis is a political consultant specializing in state and federal campaigns, issue advocacy, and independent expenditures. He co-founded Independent Strategies, the firm behind the independent expenditure campaign credited with multiple victories. He co-founded several political and issue committees, including Patriot Majority USA, Patriot Majority PAC, Repower.US, and NextGen Competition.

Before his consulting career, Rakis spent a decade managing state and federal campaigns nationwide. He served as Elections Director at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and later at the Democratic Governors Association (DGA), where he was promoted to Political Director. In the 2006 cycle, he helped secure 22 Democratic gubernatorial victories out of 36 races.

A native of Silver Spring, Maryland, Rakis has a long history of winning elections at the congressional, statewide, and gubernatorial levels. He has worked on successful campaigns for U.S. House, Senate, and presidential tickets, as well as legislative caucuses, and coordinated state party efforts. His strategic leadership has helped secure victories in competitive battleground states nationwide.

A graduate of Salisbury State University, Rakis was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, serving in the Maryland National Guard. He completed training at the U.S. Army Military Police School and Airborne School. He lives in Kensington, Maryland, with his wife and three children.
